Protecting Your Identity: Watermarks, Facial Recognition & Reverse Image Search

Whether you show your face or work faceless: protection against unwanted identification should be considered from day one, not only after something has already happened.

Watermarks

A subtle but visible watermark makes it harder for your content to be shared unnoticed elsewhere or misused as a "free preview". It doesn't need to be intrusive - usually a small logo/handle in a corner is enough.

Remove metadata

Photos and videos often contain invisible metadata (GPS location, device model, timestamp). You should always strip this data before uploading - most smartphones offer a setting for this, and there are also free tools available.

Use reverse image search yourself

Occasionally upload your own images to a reverse image search to check whether your content shows up unauthorized elsewhere. This catches misuse early instead of discovering it by chance.

Make backgrounds unrecognizable

Identifiable furniture, views, or posters in the background can theoretically reveal your location. A neutral background or targeted blur editing eliminates that risk from the start.
