Reddit Marketing Without Getting Banned: How to Use Subreddits Properly for Promotion

Reddit is one of the few major channels where adult content promotion is officially allowed - yet many first attempts fail within minutes. Here are the rules almost nobody knows before experiencing them firsthand.

The account age problem

Many communities automatically filter out posts from new or low-karma accounts - exactly the pattern spam accounts typically show. A brand-new account that immediately shows up with a promotional link often gets removed silently by AutoModerator, and messaging the mods about it doesn't help. The only legitimate solution: either use an existing, organically grown account, or spend a week or two active on Reddit normally before your first promo post.

Every subreddit has its own rules

Some communities ban links entirely, others only allow self-promotion on certain days, others require a specific flair. These rules live in that sub's sidebar/wiki - always read them before your first post, not after.

Hidden word filters

Many subs automatically block certain words in the title or body (e.g. "new", or payment terms like "chargeback") without documenting it anywhere obvious. If a post vanishes without a trace, such a filter is often the cause, not necessarily a rule violation.

Don't post the same text everywhere at once

Posting identical content to multiple subs on the same day looks like mass spam to Reddit's spam detection just as much as to human moderators. Stagger it over time and tweak the text slightly per sub instead.

Transparency instead of disguised advertising

Communities focused on creator topics generally react well to open disclosure ("I'm the founder/operator") and poorly to disguised fake recommendations pretending to be a third-party opinion. Honesty actually performs better on Reddit than concealment.

For the bigger picture - Reddit as one of several channels rather than a standalone solution - see the self-managed selling vs. marketplace comparison.
