Staying Anonymous From Family, Friends & Partners
Unlike public anonymity (see our faceless guide), this is about something more specific: how do you prevent family, friends, or your partner from accidentally stumbling onto your content business?
A separate digital identity
A completely separate email account, separate payment methods, and a pseudonym not linked to any of your real social media accounts are the foundation. Avoid ever reusing usernames you also use privately.
Devices and geolocation
Use a separate device where possible, or at least a separate profile for your business. Disable location sharing in all business apps - family members with access to shared location services (e.g. family phone plans) could otherwise draw conclusions.
Keep payments discreet
Payouts shouldn't land on a shared account under a name/reference recognizable to your circle. A separate account only you see prevents awkward questions.
Talking is silver, caution is golden
As tempting as it can be to tell close confidants about your successes: every additional person in the know increases the risk of unwanted disclosure. Discretion starts with you.
